Patrick Hernandez “Born To Be Alive”

Here is a new Habits song and video. The track is called “Haacksaw”

This track began as one of my first experiments in sampling. I borrowed a beat from a Bruce Haack song, layered synth lines, chopped up sounds of my voice and youtube videos for instrumentation, and Bobby Vega from Stab City lent his drum skills to the track. Considering the heavy cut-and-paste process used and the song’s dissonant vibe at times, i felt “Haacksaw” was a fitting title.

The video was created with clips from random VHS tapes found at thrift stores and open-source footage fed through the meat grinder of FCP effects and transitions. Through the process of gathering footage and editing, rinsing and repeating, a curious theme seemed to reveal itself.
